Documentation, traceability and market access for African pharmaceutical manufacturers

ACE supports pharmaceutical manufacturers, formulators and distributors with the digital infrastructure that regulators, buyers and partners expect — while respecting the authority of national medicines regulators.

Pharmaceuticals is the most regulated industry on ACE. That is intentional.

Medicines are not a normal product. Approval to manufacture, to distribute and to sell a medicine is granted by national medicines regulators and — increasingly — coordinated through continental frameworks. No digital platform substitutes for that authority, and ACE does not try to.

What ACE provides is the digital layer around regulation: registration and identity, batch documentation, traceability from raw material to dispensed product, protection of formulation IP, and a verifiable market where authorised buyers can find authorised suppliers. The regulator decides who can make and sell. ACE records what they decided and connects it to the transaction.

ACE does not approve medicines, does not license manufacturers, and does not authorise sales.

Manufacturing authorisation, product registration, marketing approval and pharmacovigilance obligations remain with the national medicines regulatory authority in each jurisdiction — and, where they apply, with continental and regional frameworks such as the African Medicines Agency.

ACE records what those authorities have decided and links it to the product and the transaction. Nothing on ACE overrides a regulator's decision.

Where ACE supports pharmaceutical activity

Each segment has different regulatory realities. ACE treats them separately and links to the authority that governs each one.

Segment 01

Manufacturers and formulators

Entities with an authorisation to manufacture pharmaceutical products from a national regulator — including generics, branded, and herbal-based products in pharmaceutical form.

  • Finished pharmaceutical products
  • Generic medicines
  • Pharmaceutical-grade herbal formulations
  • Medical devices and consumables
  • Nutraceuticals with pharmaceutical claims
Segment 02

Distributors and wholesalers

Entities authorised to hold, transport and distribute pharmaceutical products — including cold-chain logistics, controlled substances and cross-border distribution.

  • Wholesale distribution
  • Cold-chain logistics
  • Import and export of pharmaceuticals
  • Controlled substances (with specific authorisation)
  • Hospital and institutional supply
Segment 03

Raw materials and inputs

Suppliers of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), excipients, packaging materials and botanical raw materials destined for pharmaceutical production.

  • Active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs)
  • Excipients and formulation inputs
  • Pharmaceutical-grade botanical raw materials
  • Primary and secondary packaging
  • Quality-control reference materials

Six services for pharmaceutical participants

Every service below is available through a formal request. Some are live today. Some are in the pilot. Each card links to the service page where you can read more.

Entity and product registration

Register your manufacturing entity and each product on ACE with its regulatory authorisation references, product details and responsible personnel. A verifiable digital identity for every participant and every product.

Batch documentation and traceability

Record each batch with its production date, quality-control references, and distribution chain. Verifiable from manufacturer to dispenser — critical for recall capability and for buyers who need confidence in supply.

Traceability →

Regulatory authorisation linking

Link the product's ACE record to the regulatory authorisation number issued by the national medicines authority. Buyers and officials can verify the authorisation status in seconds — ACE does not issue or renew it.

◐ In development
Verify a Record →

Formulation IP protection

Confidential registration of formulation IP, process know-how and trade secrets. Timestamped records that support later patent or design filings — without disclosing the formulation publicly.

Intellectual Property →

Botanical source documentation

Where a pharmaceutical product uses African botanical raw materials, ACE documents the plant source, community origin and benefit-sharing arrangement — the foundation of any honest natural-origin claim.

Market access for authorised products

List authorised products on the ACE Market for discovery by verified buyers — hospitals, pharmacies, distributors and institutional procurement. Only products with a linked regulatory authorisation are shown.

Three problems ACE solves for this sector

These are the practical barriers that keep African pharmaceutical capacity from being used fully — and from being trusted across borders.

📦

Batch documentation that a regulator or buyer can verify

Every batch of every medicine needs a record that can travel. ACE provides per-batch digital documentation — production date, QC references, distribution chain — verifiable in seconds. Essential for recall and for cross-border confidence.

🔒

Formulation IP that is protected before it is public

African formulators often disclose formulations in the course of certification or partnership discussions — losing the very advantage they were trying to protect. ACE offers confidential timestamped registration so IP is protected without public disclosure.

🏛️

Connecting to authorities without replacing them

Regulators need efficient ways to receive, verify and communicate authorisation status. ACE provides the digital plumbing that connects regulatory decisions to the products and transactions they govern — without becoming a regulator.

What ACE does not do in pharmaceuticals

ACE does not approve medicines for use, does not authorise manufacturing, does not license distributors, does not issue marketing authorisations, does not conduct pharmacovigilance, and does not clear imports at the border.

Those responsibilities remain with the national medicines regulatory authority in each country, and where applicable with regional and continental frameworks. ACE documents, connects and verifies. The regulator decides. That line is not crossed, on this platform, ever.

Bring your authorised products to the African free trade market

Register your entity and products, request a documentation or traceability service, or protect your formulation IP. Tell us what you make and where you are authorised to sell it — we will contact you and prepare a written proposal.
